Holla Knits Blog Tour: Rolling Thunder

I love providing new masi|knits yarns for the Holla Knits collections. And this season is no exception. There are so many awesome patterns, I can’t decide which one to cast on first. But Rolling Thunder is one of my absolute favorites. I love how the colorwork fits so well with our new Nantucket colorways.

The overall construction and shape is also totally up my alley.

Nantucket Colorways for Fall 2013

This fall, the Nantucket collection includes colors inspired by the New England seascape, especially in the winter.

Beaches in the fall and winter are a very New England phenomenon in my mind. Having grown up in Southern California, the thought of snow falling on sand dunes was completely foreign. But having lived in the area for nearly 20 years now, it just seems homey and lovely to imagine Christmas on the Cape and the Islands.

The colorways of masi|knits Nantucket collection are evocative of this location and feeling of being so remote yet not so far away. Colors include – seaglass, ivy, midnight, dune, cranberry, etc.

Nachtfalter KAL

There is a really fun KAL for Nachtfalter that is happening now on Ravelry. I have decided to make a mini version for a size 6 child. (Partly to appease my daughter who seems to think that all knitting done in this house should result in another FO for her to wear, and partly to try out this pattern as quickly as possible.)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI used Bottoms Up in Grasshopper. More photos coming soon…

And I am thrilled to see all the other versions coming together as well. Especially, the two that are also using Bottoms Up in Caipirinha.

Knitting in the Dark

I love these Light Saber knitting needles.

Light saber knitting needles

Some quick calculations (hopefully, I have done this right), means that the 3/8″ lucite rod will yield needles that are roughly 9mm/US 13. It seems like you could make smaller sizes as well. However, I think making circulars (my preferred way to knit anything, including flat pieces) might take a little more doing.

I love the idea of being able to knit in bed without having to turn the light on, though. It’s the knitter’s equivalent of the Itty Bitty Booklight.

Holla Knits Blog Tour: Nachtfalter

I am thrilled with the new Spring/Summer 2013 collection from Holla Knits. Particularly with the Nachtfalter top by the incomparable Stephanie Pollmeier which was knit up using our own Bottoms Up in Caipirinha.

This looks so fun to knit. Darling mini-cables for the ribbing at the bottom and then a lace pattern that is beautiful and interesting without being too fussy. And the straight-forward construction means that I will actually be able to knit this in time to wear it this season. I will be trying it out in the Bottoms Up Cosmopolitan colorway, a soft light red, but I think it would also look fabulous in our new Blue Hawaiian or Pina Colada as well.

I have really enjoyed providing yarn support to Holla Knits. It is such a joy to see this gorgeous yarn being used for an amazing new pattern.

In celebration of this great collection, for the month of May, we are offering FREE shipping for any orders of Bottoms Up from our Etsy Store. Please use the coupon code hollaspr13ship.

Pina Colada colorway

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI am loving this bright cheery yellow we are calling Pina Colada in the Bottoms Up line. It’s a soft buttery yellow with a slight bent towards orange.

Blue Hawaiian colorway

Introducing the latest colorway to the Bottoms Up line this spring… Blue Hawaiian. This is an oceany teal blue that brings to mind tropical beaches and drinks with umbrellas in them.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAnd in honor of the new color, here is a recipe for your own Blue Hawaiian drink.

Blue Hawaiian

1 oz light rum
1 oz Blue Curaçao liqueur
4 oz pineapple juice

This drink can be blended with ice or mixed in a shaker with ice and strained. Garnish with a slice of pineapple.
